It wasn’t until he met Maresha (a recruitment professional) that he managed to get an opportunity to work as an agency worker.
Many thought his age was against him, whereas Maresha saw a man who had a wealth of experience in sales and customer service, a great attitude and personality and most of all a passion to still work, when it suited him.
Thanks to this partnership, Peter started working as an agency worker for Maresha on small contracts in the world of customer service and telemarketing. The first role he worked for Maresha was with a young team – mainly 20 year olds – and within three weeks the company was begging for him to stay and reported that Peter’s addition to the team had made a positive impact to the internal culture of the team.
Peter says working as an agency worker has given him purpose and works around his life. He gets to choose when he will work and with who (every company he has worked with has always requested him back). When not working, Peter loves playing golf, reading, supporting his favourite AFL team and seeing family.
He says every time he goes to work everyone assumes he can’t even turn on a computer because of his age – he loves proving them wrong and changing their perceptions of mature workers.
