Victor is the CEO and Manager of Yunaga Civil & Earth (YCE), a civil earthmoving company based in the Hunter Valley, NSW, and is a wholly owned Indigenous construction business. They also offer consultation on the protection and conservation of Aboriginal heritage for local projects.
Victor has run the business for the past 11 years – the first 10 of those as a partner and the last few months as a business he has full ownership of – but it’s over the past 6 months he has seen the business grown and take shape as part of his key planning. This is thanks to two reasons he says – having the right strategy in place and the right staff and support to help him deliver the work for his valued clients.
For the past six months, Victor has proudly partnered with an Indigenous agency to help him source the staff needed for his business. This allows him to grow his business, deliver a service to clients and realise his personal vision to provide jobs for local indigenous staff.
Victor says without the support of an agency, he would simply be unable to offer a sustainable business and would not have had the support he needed to grow the business.
This has allowed him to engage a number of staff to operate the heavy machinery, which includes a Skid Steer – 259D, Mini Excavator – 305.5E2, Excavator – 330FL and two Dump Trucks – 730C2s – and also admin support.
He says agency workers, have helped him grow his business and ensured that he kept local jobs for local staff – something which drives him as a business owner.
